Sandra Bullock Begins Gradual Return to Public Life Following Bryan Randall’s Death

Sandra Bullock has started easing back into public appearances more than two years after the death of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who passed away in August 2023 from complications of ALS.

Bullock had stepped away from the spotlight to focus on her family and personal life following Randall’s death. She had previously spoken about prioritizing being present at home, telling CBS News in March 2022 that work in front of the camera needed to take a pause until she no longer felt the way she did at that time.

Her first notable public step came in May 2024 when she remotely joined Keanu Reeves on the 50 MPH podcast to mark the 30th anniversary of the film Speed. During the conversation, Bullock expressed her admiration for Reeves and shared that she hopes they will work together again in the future.

In October 2024, Bullock reunited in person with Reeves and Speed director Jan de Bont at a screening of the film at Beyond Fest.

A Return Connected to Practical Magic 2

Bullock made her first red carpet appearance in 18 months on April 14, 2026, when she joined her Practical Magic 2 co-star Nicole Kidman at CinemaCon 2026. This marked only her second red carpet appearance since Randall’s death.

During the event, Bullock asked Kidman, “Why do we come here, Nicole?” prompting Kidman to reply with the now-iconic line, “We come to this place for magic.” Bullock added that returning to the world of Practical Magic felt like coming back to a home they once lived in.

Just days before the CinemaCon appearance, Bullock joined Instagram for the first time. The move was confirmed when Jennifer Aniston commented, “She’s here!”

Bullock has not given a major interview about her grief and has not posted a detailed statement on social media. Instead, her return has been gradual and tied to the upcoming release of Practical Magic 2 in September 2026.

The actress is the mother of two children, Louis, 16, and Laila, 11.
