In January, speculation began about the reasons behind the actor’s injury.
Actor Keanu Reeves was seen in January walking with crutches and carrying an ice pack to help with the swelling in his left knee, a setback that occurred while filming his new movie ‘Good Fortune’ co-starring comedian Aziz Ansari, who is also directing the shoot.
Immediately, speculations arose about the reasons behind the veteran actor’s injury on set, perhaps due to a demanding action scene. However, Ansari recently revealed the unlikely way the injury happened, clarifying that the action scenes during filming had nothing to do with the incident. Instead, it occurred while Keanu was taking a break in his trailer after a long day of shooting.
“He had been filming with me for about 15 days. I told him, ‘Go rest for 15 minutes in your trailer.’ Suddenly, he tripped over a rug and yelled, ‘Oh, my knee,'” Ansari explained during a press conference.
Ansari also praised the professionalism of the 59-year-old actor on camera, describing him as a dedicated worker who continued to push through despite the pain and mobility issues. “He’s like a soldier,” Ansari said, noting that Reeves still filmed everything except the scenes requiring him to dance salsa. “But he kept insisting, ‘I’ll do it, I’ll do it.’ We had to tell him, ‘Keanu, relax. We’ll salsa dance when your knee is healed.'”
Ansari highlighted Reeves’ history of putting himself in high-risk situations for action movies like ‘Speed,’ the ‘John Wick’ series, and ‘The Matrix.’ “In fact, in ‘Speed,’ he did the scene where he jumps from one car to another himself. They didn’t use that take in the end, but he did it,” Ansari revealed.
He pointed out that Reeves has done extreme stunts without needing to “go to the hospital or anything.”

Reeves and Ansari co-wrote and co-directed this new project with Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, a project that was first announced in April 2023. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President Joe Drake stated in a Deadline release that they “moved quickly to make this project a reality once it became available.”
“We’ve actually had good fortune with this film,” Drake said. “We love the script and strongly believe in Aziz as both a performer and director. And when you add Seth and Keanu, two incredible world-class talents, under Aziz’s leadership, this has the potential to be a very special film for us.”
