Shakira doesn’t think twice, she is direct: “My children hated the movie ‘Barbie’.

In a new interview, the popstar spoke about Greta Gerwig’s film: “I’m raising two boys. I want them to feel empowered while also respecting women.”

Shakira isn’t a fan of Barbie. She made that clear in a new interview with Allure magazine, where the singer-songwriter shared her thoughts on the movie as well as women’s empowerment. When it comes to Greta Gerwig’s film, she has a specific viewpoint:

“My kids hated it, they found it restrictive. And I agree, to some extent.” She continued, “I’m raising two boys. I want them to feel powerful while also respecting women. I like pop culture when it tries to empower women without depriving men of their ability to be men, to protect and provide.”

“I believe in giving women all the tools and confidence that we can do anything without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think men have a purpose in society and women have another. We complement each other, and this complement shouldn’t be lost.”

The Colombian artist just released her new album, “Las mujeres ya no lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), celebrated with a free concert in Times Square, NYC, attended by 40,000 people from all over the city.
