A local story involving two neighboring families has drawn attention after a young boy’s act of generosity was undone by a resident, followed by a series of unexpected developments the next day.
According to a report by The Epoch Times, the situation began when a 12-year-old boy named Ethan noticed that a 9-year-old neighbor, Caleb, who uses a wheelchair, was unable to leave his porch due to the absence of a ramp. The boy’s mother learned from Caleb’s parent that they had been attempting to save for a ramp for over a year, as insurance would not cover the cost.
A Small Project Sparks a Bigger Reaction
Motivated by the situation, Ethan decided to take action. Using his personal savings—originally intended for a bicycle—he purchased materials and constructed a wooden ramp over the course of three days. With assistance from his mother, the ramp was installed at Caleb’s home.
The result was immediate. Caleb was able to independently move from his porch to the sidewalk for the first time, where he joined other children in the neighborhood.
However, the following morning, the ramp was destroyed by another resident, identified in the report as Mrs. Harlow. Witnesses stated that she objected to the structure, describing it as an “eyesore,” before dismantling it using a metal bar.
The incident left Caleb once again unable to leave his porch.
Developments the Following Day
The situation took a turn the next day when multiple vehicles arrived at Mrs. Harlow’s residence. Individuals identified as representatives of the Foundation for Global Kindness approached her regarding an ongoing application process.
According to the account, Mrs. Harlow had been a candidate for a leadership role within the organization. Representatives informed her that part of their evaluation process included observing candidates’ behavior in real-life situations.
During the visit, video footage of the ramp being destroyed was presented. Following this, the organization withdrew her candidacy, citing concerns about her actions.
In addition, representatives announced plans to develop a community project on nearby land. The proposed development includes accessible recreational features and infrastructure designed to support individuals with mobility needs.
The organization also acknowledged Ethan’s efforts, indicating that his contribution would be recognized as part of the project.
The events concluded with confirmation that further steps would be taken to improve accessibility within the neighborhood, following the initial incident.
