A mother whose 16-year-old son, Daniel, disappeared almost a year ago experienced a shocking moment when she spotted a homeless man wearing her son’s distinctive jacket in a café in another city.
Daniel had left for school on a Tuesday morning and never returned. Described by his mother as a kind-hearted and sensitive boy who always let her know his whereabouts, his disappearance was completely out of character. Surveillance footage from the school showed him leaving campus, boarding a bus, and heading away. Police reassured the family that he would likely return soon, but he never did, and the search remains active.
Yesterday, while in another city for a business meeting, the mother stopped at a small café to get coffee. An elderly man entered wearing a jacket she immediately recognized as Daniel’s. The jacket had a small guitar-shaped patch she had sewn over a ripped sleeve and a tiny paint stain on the back that had never come out.
The man was counting coins to buy tea. The mother quietly asked the barista to prepare tea and a pastry for him. When the man expressed his gratitude with tears in his eyes, she asked him where he had gotten the jacket.
“A boy gave it to me,” he replied with a smile.
Before she could ask more questions, the busy café caused the man to leave quickly. Instead of confronting him directly, the mother decided to follow him.
The man walked for about an hour toward the outskirts of the city, warming his hands on the cup of tea but never drinking it or eating the pastry. He eventually stopped at an old, deserted house and knocked gently on the door.
When the door opened, the mother almost fainted at what she saw inside.
