Authorities in Berea, Kentucky are actively searching for a suspect following a fatal incident at a local bank that left two employees dead, according to reporting from The Associated Press.
Ongoing Investigation Following Deadly Incident
The event took place at a branch of U.S. Bank on April 30, 2026. Officials confirmed that a male and a female employee were shot during a robbery attempt inside the building.
According to Kentucky State Police, the suspect entered the bank wearing a gray-white hoodie, gloves, and a mask. After the shooting, the individual fled the scene. Authorities have not confirmed whether anything was taken during the incident.
Trooper Scottie Pennington stated that investigators are currently pursuing leads and working to identify and locate the suspect.
“They’re our people that work in our community, and they’re no longer with us,” Pennington said in comments reported by The Associated Press. “At this time we do have some leads, and we’re trying our best to bring this evil person to justice.”
Large-Scale Search Effort Underway
Law enforcement agencies have launched an extensive search operation involving local and state police, along with federal authorities including the FBI. The effort includes door-to-door inquiries, review of surveillance footage, and the use of helicopters, drones, and trained dogs.

In a statement, U.S. Bank expressed condolences to those affected by the tragedy.
“We’re deeply saddened by the tragic event that took the lives of two of our employees at our Berea, Kentucky branch earlier today,” the company said. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, our colleagues and the entire Berea community.”
