Lara Trump has publicly condemned late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following remarks he made about Melania Trump during a recent monologue tied to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The criticism comes after Kimmel, during a parody segment ahead of the April 25 event in Washington, D.C., joked that the First Lady had “a glow like an expectant widow.” The comment resurfaced in public discourse after a shooting incident occurred at the dinner, intensifying reactions from members of the Trump family.
Comments Made During Fox News Appearance
Speaking on Fox News with host Laura Ingraham on April 27, Lara Trump strongly objected to the tone of the joke and broader trends in entertainment.
“I mean, I just think that Jimmy Kimmel has really fallen off the deep end,” she said during the interview.
She continued her criticism by questioning the current state of comedy, adding: “None of this is funny. Comedy isn’t funny anymore. Shows aren’t entertaining, movies aren’t entertaining anymore. Whenever you have to say things like that to engage your audience, you basically might as well exit stage left.”
Lara Trump also aligned her position with earlier statements made by Donald Trump and the First Lady, both of whom have called for action against Kimmel in response to the remark.
“I don’t think the American people want to see this sort of thing,” she added. “Even the ones who didn’t vote for Donald Trump. So I agree with Melania and the President. I think Jimmy Kimmel needs to leave ABC.”
The controversy follows a security incident at the Correspondents’ Dinner, where a gunman opened fire inside the venue, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and the evacuation of attendees, including the president and first lady.
While the joke was made prior to the incident, its content has drawn heightened scrutiny in light of the events that followed. The situation has fueled ongoing debate over the boundaries of political humor and the role of late-night television in public discourse.
