Karoline Leavitt’s birth date revealed as White House makes unexpected decision on her role

White House Press Secretary Prepares for Maternity Leave as Duties Shift Internally

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is preparing to step away from her role temporarily as she approaches the birth of her second child.

During remarks to reporters on April 24, Leavitt indicated that her time at the podium is coming to a pause. She stated that it would “likely be my last gaggle for some time,” adding that she is “about ready to have a baby any minute,” pointing to the immediate nature of her departure.

Leavitt, 28, previously confirmed that her baby girl is expected in May through a personal update shared on social media. She also noted plans to attend the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on April 25, suggesting her transition away from daily briefings would follow shortly after.

Temporary Coverage Without a Single Replacement

As Leavitt begins her maternity leave, the White House will not designate a single interim press secretary. Instead, officials confirmed that responsibilities will be distributed among several administration figures who will rotate at the briefing podium.

Reporting from Politico, along with statements cited by Dasha Burns, indicates that those stepping in could include Cabinet members, Vice President JD Vance, and potentially President Donald Trump.

Leavitt expressed confidence in the team that will manage communications in her absence, telling reporters they would be “in very good hands.” She also made a light remark noting that many members of the press already have direct access to the president.

Continued Operations Under Communications Team

While the briefing role rotates, the broader communications office will remain under the direction of communications director Steven Cheung, supported by the existing staff.

Leavitt has been a consistent presence in the administration, previously serving as a campaign spokesperson before taking on her current position. She also returned to work shortly after the birth of her first child in July 2024.

Although no specific timeline has been given for her return, she indicated that her leave would be temporary, concluding her remarks with a brief message to reporters that she expects to be back “very soon.”
