A major security incident disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C., after gunfire erupted near the venue, prompting the evacuation of Donald Trump and other high-profile attendees.
Security Breach Triggers Emergency Response

According to officials, the incident occurred at the Washington Hilton, where the event was being held. Reports indicate that multiple shots were fired near a security checkpoint close to the ballroom.
The United States Secret Service confirmed that the president, the first lady, and other protected individuals were safely evacuated. The suspect was quickly taken into custody.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing several gunshots before agents rapidly moved to secure the area and protect those in attendance.
During a briefing later in the evening, President Trump confirmed that a Secret Service agent had been struck during the incident. He stated that the agent was wearing protective gear and is now “doing great.”
“He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun,” Trump said, adding that he had personally spoken with the injured agent.

Authorities indicated that the suspect is believed to be from California. Law enforcement officials began investigating the individual’s residence as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the investigation is in its early stages, noting that multiple charges are expected in connection with the incident.
Kash Patel, head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, urged the public to provide any relevant information as authorities work to determine the full circumstances.
Officials said the suspect appeared to be acting alone, and there is currently no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

The dinner, a long-standing event attended by political leaders, media figures, and public officials, was ultimately canceled following the incident.
The White House Correspondents’ Association later confirmed that further details would be shared as they become available.
