The reality television community is mourning the loss of Darrell Sheets, the veteran treasure hunter known to millions as “The Gambler.” Sheets, a central figure on the A&E hit series Storage Wars from its 2010 debut until 2023, passed away recently at the age of 67.
According to a report by Page Six, the Lake Havasu Police Department confirmed that Sheets died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Authorities also noted that the investigation remains active, specifically addressing claims involving the television personality. “We are aware of…cyberbullying accusations and that is a part of the active investigation,” police told the outlet.
Inside the complicated private life of Darrell Sheets — beloved star of Storage Wars — new details are resurfacing about his relationships, health struggles, and the turbulent years leading up to his death at 67
While Sheets found fame through his high-stakes bidding on abandoned lockers, his life behind the scenes was marked by both health challenges and complex personal dynamics. People previously reported that Sheets suffered a heart attack seven years ago. During that period, Newsweek noted that Sheets credited his then-fiancée, Romney Snyder, for her support throughout his recovery.
His family life also remained a point of public interest. Sheets is survived by his children, Tiffany Shane Sheets and Brandon Sheets. Brandon, known to fans as “The Sidebet,” was a frequent fixture on Storage Wars, where he learned the trade alongside his father, per Nicki Swift.
The star’s relationship history featured significant ties to Kimber Wuerfel. While US Weekly reported the pair divorced in 2016, Sheets’ own social media activity suggested a continued and deep connection. Throughout 2021 and 2022, Sheets frequently shared photos of Wuerfel, referring to her as “my girl” and his “lover.” In 2022, he shared plans for a new chapter, posting about traveling to Tennessee in a fully loaded sprinter van with Kimber. As recently as 2024, Sheets posted about spending a weekend boating and car cruising with her in Lake Havasu.
The news of his death prompted an emotional response from his former co-star and rival, Brandi Passante. In an Instagram tribute, Passante expressed heartbreak for Sheets’ family, including his granddaughter, Zoie.
“I’m just so very sorry to hear the circumstances of his passing,” Passante wrote, revealing she had lost family members to similar situations. “If you are struggling, if you feel hopeless or like no one cares. I assure you they do!! You are not alone… You are not taking your pain away, you are transferring it to someone else.”
At the time of his passing, Sheets was operating an antique and collectibles shop in Havasu.
